IIMHE Educational Curriculum

The educational program will include:

  • Webinars led by experts in the field of musculoskeletal medicine and related disciplines
  • Specialty topic updates with dissemination of curated summaries of the latest literature
  • Literature alerts when important research relevant to members is published

The curriculum will cover the following:

Investigation of bone health:

  • Imaging including REMS, BINDEX, MedBeam, DXA, CT, HRpQCT, MRI
  • Blood tests including the bone panel and bone turnover markers

Dietary and exercise considerations:

  • Key bone nutrients
  • Dietary preferences and the microbiome
  • Lactoferrin and Collagen peptides
  • Impact and resistance exercise
  • Concentric and eccentric exercise

Endocrinology:

  • Oestrogen, progesterone, testosterone
  • Diabetes
  • Thyroid dysfunction
  • Parathyroid dysfunction
  • Prolactin
  • Glucocorticoids
  • Oestrogen and androgen blockers

Non-pharmacological management of bone health:

  • MBST
  • Photobiomodulation
  • Whole body vibration

Pharmacological management of bone health:

  • Antiresorptive therapy
  • Anabolic agents

Psychological aspects of bone health:

  • Stress, anxiety and cortisol
  • Managing medically induced fear when a life changing diagnosis is given

Medico-legal aspects of bone health:

  • Consent to treatment and the Montgomery principles

Infectious diseases and bone health:

  • HIV and retroviral therapy
